Federal Poly Idah Engineering Courses Suspended By NBTE

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has suspended admission of students into all engineering programmes at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Kogi State.
According to a statement issued by the NBTE Public Relation Officer, Malam Suleiman Gwarzo, the suspension was as a result of a petition by National Diploma (ND) students of the polytechnic.

It stated that the students reported the absence of practical learning in the polytechnic School of Engineering as workshops and laboratories were locked permanently.
They also complained that enrolment of students into the engineering programmes was between 300 and 500.
It stated that the investigation revealed low practical learning for engineering programmes in the polytechnic due to large number of students in a class.
“The investigation confirmed the students’ allegation, after it was observed that at the (ND) level, the number of students enrolled was between 300 and 400 students. This was in violation of the approved carrying capacity for the programmes.
“Based on the above observations and to ensure that standards are maintained, the board has directed that the institution should stop further admissions into its engineering programmes.”
“The board has also advised the Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), to accordingly stop all processes of admission into all engineering programmes in the institution.”
It stated that the suspension was conveyed to the polytechnic’s rector in a letter signed by Dr Masa’udu Kazaure, the Executive Secretary of the board.
The letter with reference C/TEB.235/VOL.I A/235, was dated 26 June, 2015. (NAN)
