Federal Govt of Nigeria asked to Develop Technical Education

The Obafemi Awolowo University Muslims Graduates Association (UNIFEMGA) Abuja chapter has called for increase funding of the education sector by the government in line with global best practice as recommended by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
.
The call was made at the 2nd UNIFEMGA National Education Summit with the theme, “Nigeria’s Education Sector: Transforming into the 21st Century with Content, Quality and Global Recognition”. The summit which attracted delegates from all the state branches of the association, education policy makers, school owners, teachers, students and other critical stakeholders resolved that for Nigeria to achieve a sustainable and effective education in the polity, there is need to encourage and promote technical and vocational education among the youths in the country.
The summit frowned at the neglect suffered by technical and vocational education and the low status attached to it in terms of poor enrolment by students, low funding by government and low rating of graduates of the school by employers of labour and the society.
However, a communique jointly signed by the Alhaji Abdul Ganiyy Oladokun, chairman UNIFEMGA Abuja chapter and Alhaji AbdulBasit Bolaji Bakare, chairman LOC of the summit stated that there should be a political commitment on the part of the government to provide free education for the poor in the rural areas while there must also better remuneration package for teachers to retain the services of quality and highly qualified professionals in the education sector. The communique also called for institutionalisation of mentoring in the education sector to attain greater heights and maximum results.
