Emily Ashwell to leave UKTI Education

Emily Ashwell is to leave her post as managing director of UKTI Education, the government agency dedicated to offshore education exports, after just two years in the role.

She has been promoted to the Shareholder Executive at the Department of Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS), a role she begins on Monday 15 June.

In a letter to stakeholders Ashwell said: “Over the past two years, UKTI Education... has made significant progress, outlining a clear vision for its high value education work and helping UK education and training organisations win £1.5 billion of new business overseas.

“The team has a substantial pipeline of high value education opportunities that will be the focus of its delivery work over the next 18 to 24 months and I would encourage you to get in touch with them.”

Plans for her successor are currently being agreed by BIS and UKTI. In the interim, Claire Durkin, deputy director of international knowledge & innovation global in BIS, will oversee the department.

The BIS Shareholder Executive operates as a shareholder of businesses owned or part-owned by the UK government, and manages the government's interventions in the private sector to secure best value for the taxpayer.
